“Monitor Wielkopolski” magazine is a monthly published by the Self-Government of the Wielkopolska Region. It appears in print every second Wednesday of each month and over 50,000 copies are distributed together with the ”Polska. Głos Wielkopolski” daily. Each month, a few hundred free copies go out to the self-governments of the Wielkopolska, members of parliament, institutions subordinated to the Self-Government and other regional self-governments. All current and archived issues of the monthly are available from www.monitorwielkopolski.com.pl.
“Monitor Wielkopolski” is issued on the basis of the Wielkopolska Regional Parliament’s resolution of
28 February 2000 which describes monthly’s purpose, its audience, general organisational rules and established the Social Programme Board. According to the Commission’s resolution from January 29 2007, at the moment, the Social Programme Board consists of: Lech Dymarski (President), Zbigniew Czerwiński (Vice-President), Krzysztof Grabowski (Secretary), Tatiana Sokołowska and Waldemar Witkowski. The Board’s main purpose is to shape the magazine’s profile and policy.
“Monitor Wielkopolski” editorial staff are a part of the organisational structure of the Chancellery of the Regional Parliament. Bernadeta Ignasiak was the magazine’s first editor-in-chief. From September 2003 to January 31 2006, the editorial staff was managed by Jacek Bartkowiak, who was then replaced by Ryszard Jałoszyński. Since May 2007 Artur Boiński has been acting editor-in-chief.
The first issue was released at the end of March 2001, and was published by The Wielkopolska Region Promotion and Information Centre, then by the Interregional Trade & Cooperation Centre Wielkopolska, and later on by the European Integration Centre in Rokosowo. Since January 2008, the Marshal’s Office of the Wielkopolska Region Chancellery has been the publisher.
The Chancellery’s resolution of September 29 2003 changed the statute of the magazine, adapting it to its new tasks. According to the Social Programme Board’s suggestion, one of the crucial changes was re-positioning the magazine “to the inhabitants of Wielkopolska” (originally, it was aimed at "local self-government, people working with those self-governments and the Self-Government of the Wielkopolska Region "). As a result of such changes, from 2005 and 2006 it was published as a 12-page insert to “Gazety Poznańskiej”. Since December 2006 “Monitor Wielkopolski” has been issued as an insert to “Głos Wielkopolski”, and following the changes made in 2007, it changed its layout and now has 16 pages.
In accordance with the magazine’s status, it aims to present issues on the Wielkopolska territory self-government functioning, in particular to:
- Foster the idea of self-government in Wielkopolska,
- Inform its readers of Regional Parliament and the Commission’s works,
- Present the self-government actions implemented in the region,
- Popularise self-government territorial initiatives,
- Build social, economic and cultural bonds in the region,
- Describe the experiences of self-government from different countries,
- Popularise knowledge on self-government,
- Present its members,
- inform its readers about the Marshal’s Office of the Wielkopolska Region’s works.
